It is strange that in all the time I have been crafting with the boys I have never used Fimo, so when Merry asked if we would like to review some I was intrigued to give it a go. Fimo is a soft modling clay that you bake in the oven to harden off.
We were sent three kits to review, firstly the Create your own robot set, which is £4.75. Maxi decided that this was to be his kit and being the boy that he is, he decided to set off and make a robot just like on the instructions.
The kit comes with four colours of Fimo, including a glow in the dark white and yes it really does glow in the dark! Maxi insisited that he did it all on his own, so I gave him a butter knife to cut with and a small tool thing that we had in the craft cupboard. I was amazed with the robot he created and more than that so was he. He is ever so proud of his finnied robot and the Fimo held his attention for a good hour and he has used it again since. This is a perfect start kit for any crafty boy or girl.
Mini decided to set too on the make your own zoo animals kit and made a very realistic lion, before he decided to no longer follow the instructions and that he wanted to make an elephant using colours from the other kit too. I have to say that the Fimo really entranced Mini and kept him occupied for a couple of afternoons after school and that is saying something for a 5 year old who lacks a concentration spam. Out of all of us Mini has enjoyed the Fimo the most, partly as he doesn’t have any boundaries and he loves to imagine and make.
I was also sent some Fimo classic for me, but to be honest the boys pinched it and have been using it for their makes!
I have to say that I am really impressed with Fimo, especially the soft and will be purchasing the soft basic starter kit, so we can expand our colour pallet and have some more tools and varnish. Fimo is the perfect birthday gift and with kits coming in at less than £5 the perfect price too.
