Saint David’s Day Crafts

St David’s Day is celebrated in Wales on 1 March, in honour of Dewi Sant or St David, the patron Saint of Wales who was believed to have died in the year 589.   He eventually settled at Glyn Rhosyn (St David’s), in south-west Wales, where he established a religious community.  Many miracles have been attributed to him, the most incredible of which was performed when he was preaching at the Synod of Llanddewibrefi when he caused the ground to rise underneath him so that he could be seen and heard by all.

St David’s Day is celebrated in Welsh schools and every year parades are held in Wales to commemorate St. David. The largest of these is held in Cardiff. I think it would be lovely to look at cottages in South Wales to see it with the boys.  There are some lovely holiday cottages in Wales and we love it, as it was the destination for our honeymoon, 17 years ago now.

I often feel that St David’s Day marks the coming of spring due to the Daffodil being the symbol, along with the leak and there are some great Daffodil Crafts you could do with your children.  I have a pinboard full of Spring Crafts on Pinterest, but  my favorites are Nurturestore’s Daffodil Windmill and Daffodil Bunting (I have asked Cathy if I could share the images and links with you and she agreed).

I often wish we celebrated St Georges day in the same way that St David’s day is celebrated.  Do you celebrate any patron saints days?
