Homemade Birthday Cards

We are a family that loves making and receiving homemade cards and I adore crafting. However, I am aware the boys are getting older and I want to keep their enthusiasm for the homemade and very amateur cards. So I thought I would share with you the cards I made for Maxi this year and also some of the DIY birthday cards we have made for family members over the years. I love how they can be personalised with a birthday message and doesn’t everyone want a handmade birthday card?.

How to make Birthday candle Homemade Birthday Cards

  1. Firstly I cut the straws to the desired length
  2. Then cut a small amount of bakers twine and glued it in the straw to make it look like a wick
  3. Then glue the straws to the card.
  4. I then used the pens to make the flames
  5. Finally, I ripped off some washi tape and wrote happy birthday on it

I try to make the instructions really simple, but you can often see just how they are made! You could make it look more professional by layering and matting a happy birthday stamp or even using your printer to print off happy birthday on paper and cut it out and stick it on.

Method

Card making doesn’t get mucMaking greetings cards doesn’t get much easier than this and I love using washi tape with kids. I do love a washi tape birthday card.

  1. Make bunting flags equally spaced on the twine using the washi tape by folding it over on each other.
  2. Then cut a triangle shape to the bunting using scissors.
  3. Stick on to the card with tape at the rear of each side.

This would also be a great way to use decorative paper scraps instead of washi tape as embellisments (by using a glue stick to stick it together or even using pom poms as the bunting.

I do love a birthday card that is bright, fun and easy to make. Sometimes the simplest cards are the most effective and they are much less expensive than shop-bought cards and the perfect addition to any birthday gifts.
