Potato print wrapping paper

potato print 1

I am delighted to host a guest post from Wendy at Daisies and Pie today, who is standing in for me whilst I am sunning myself in Florida with the family!

So over to Wendy.

This is a great low cost kids activity. It’s a creative way to make literally metres of Christmas wrapping paper and let the kids have a brilliant and messy time.

Age:          Age 2+

Time:        20 minutes+

What you need:

  • A roll of drawing paper
  • A potato
  • Metal cookie cutter in a festive design – we used a star
  • Different coloured paints

What you do:

•       Cut a small potato into half and then use the cookie cutter to cut a star shape – this is the easiest way to get a good defined potato stamper ideally suited to small children’s hand size.

•       Unroll the paper and cut into whatever lengths you like.

•       Tip the paint into shallow tubs or squirt onto plates

•       Dip the potato and print!

Hints & tips:

  • Toddlers just love this activity and they will happily potato print the entire world given half the chance! Try not to be too fussy about how they print and the spacing just let them enjoy it.
  • Older children may like to use tissue paper sheets and sparkly paint and create a more delicate special wrapping paper.
  • You can also try this with different festive print designs.
  • Use it to wrap up festive gifts for a truly individual look.
