The Jungle Book – The Mowgli Stories

I have mentioned that we love audio books here in “The Mad House”.  They are great for encouraging kids to read and really bring stories to life.   We have been listening to The Jungle Book – The Mowgli Stories by Rudyard Kipling.  Read on to see just what we thought about it…..

First off, this is not an audio book for little children.  It is not the Disney version of the story, it is the classic story from Rudyard Kipling.  I would say if you have kids of 8 and above this is a great book, but do listen to it first if you have children of sensitive nature.

We loved this book, it is spellbinding and once you start listening you really want to listen to it all.  The narrator’s ( Bill Bailey, Richard E. Grant, Colin Salmon, Tim McInnerny, Bernard Cribbins, Celia Imrie and Martin Shaw ) really bring the words to life and draw you into the story.   Add the music to it and it really is captivating.

This is a great audiobook for a car journey.  It is just over two and half hours in length and is great to read in installments.

Both my boys are in cubs and scouts and it was great for them to see where Akela and Bagheera originated from. and that they do the Grand Howl.

I love that Mini has gone to bed the last four nights listening to this classic story.  He has delighted in telling us more of the story eat morning and doing impersonations of the narrators. I have to say that Richard E Grant as Kaa is genius.
