I love decorating seasonally and also with the dark nights, I am a big fan of using light to decorate too. Last year we made some super simple jar lanterns for Halloween and we decided to add to them this year. These Halloween lanterns are really easy to make Look great too and are a fantastic way to reuse any old jars that you may have.
As my boys are older I am not averse to using candles in my house, but most of the time we use battery operated tea lights. They are really inexpensive and look pretty realistic, but more than that they are much safer, especially around Halloween when children are often in costumes that are not subject to the same fire testing as clothing.
Simple jar lanterns for Halloween
Materials
- Empty jars with the labels removed
- Seasonal sequins
- PVA Glue
- Ribbon or tape
- Paper plates
- Battery operated tea lights
- brush
Instructions
Cost the outside of the jars with PVA glue, we love Blu Tack white glue, it has a thick consistency, but it also dries totally clear with a super bright shine.
Tip – If you are finding it difficult to remove the sticky residue from the label, try using a citrus essential oil, such as lemon or grapefruit.
Add your seasonal sprinkles. We bought ours at Poundland and also from Ebay – check out the Zing Zing Trees shop. Then allow the glue to dry.
We used a selection of ribbon and washi tape to cover the thread at the top of the jars.
Place your tea light on the bottom and see how beautiful they look reflecting the shadow of the decorations on the wall.
Some jars do not have a flat bottom, so place a small ball of blue tack in the bottom of your jar to hold the tea light.
