The thing about snowman soup is that there is no one perfect recipe or way to make it. You can adapt this to make your own perfect hot chocolate mix and it makes the perfect hot cocoa treat on a cold day. I think that people hot chocolate tastes change as they age and we really love making hot chocolate with hot milk and real chocolate – a cup of cocoa really wants the soul in the freezing weather.

We made labels with the snowman soup poem on. The first time I made it very simple as it was for gifts for the boys’ teachers and we placed them in Reindeer Fingerprint mugs but knew that I wanted to add them to Christmas eve gift bags and for my nieces so I made a printable available for everyone as a freebie.

The thing is you could even handwrite super cute snowman soup labels on gift tags you don’t have to print them and just add them as bag toppers.

Spoon some drinking chocolate into a small cellophane bag and then tie it off with some ribbon cutting off the excess bag (alternatively you could use a tiny ziplock bag). What you are doing is separating the drinking chocolate, so it doesn’t turn everything brown. I used bought instant chocolate here, but you could make your own.

Place the drinking chocolate bag into the other cellophane bag and add a handful of mini marshmallows, making sure you cover the tied-up top of the hot chocolate bag.

To top it off add some chocolate buttons or even chocolate kisses or mini candy canes.

Tie the top of the bag up with some ribbon if using cone-shaped bags.  If using rectangular bags then double fold the top and secure with a label and staple.  Tie a candy cane to the bag with some more ribbon. You could use curling ribbon or red bakers twine.

We then place ours in a kid-decorated cup for the teachers and we also place one bag into the boys’ Christmas Eve Hamper and gift them to our friends along with Reindeer Food.

I spent £1 on the hot chocolate, the same on the candy canes and 80p on the mini marshmallows and I got 7 bags of snowman soup out of them. Making them less than 50p each. I have also seen the gift of snowman soup given in small mason jars and it would be a brilliant way to upcycle any jars you have saved throughout the years. You could cut the large snowman soup recipe labels in half and stick them to the jar like a jam label.

I love the addition of a couple of large marshmallows with a snowman face drawn on in edible ink. They really just finish it off.
