Welcome back to our A-Z of Ingredients cooking with kids series. This week we are at K is for Kiwi and we have made or that should be Mini has made some delicious fruit smoothies.
I don’t really struggle to get my boys to eat fruit or veg, but smoothies are a great way of getting lots of fruit and veg in to kids in a simple and fun way. Plus you can add more of the fruits they like to change the flavour or add milk, yogurt or even coconut water.
I wanted to keep it simple and let Mini do all the work. We used our hand blender, but if you have a super fast blender then that would be ace as it will even bend away any seeds.
Make a kids Fruit Smoothie
Ingredients:
Fruit and veg of your choice. We used Kiwi, blueberries, peach, blackberries and strawberries
Ice
Liquid (we used coconut water)
Equipment list:
Blender
Knife
Chopping board
Method:
As we were using our hand blender we peeled and chopped the fruit into smaller chunks to make it easier, however, if you have a more powerful blender then you can just add them full sized.
I showed Mini how to peel a kiwi using a spoon. You chop off each end and then insert the spoon next to the skin and push around. He sound it a little hard to start with, but he soon for the hang of it.
Mini used a small knife to cut the fruit.
Tip – As fruit can be very slippery it is worth having a towel to hand to dry hands and the knife to ensure grip and prevent accidents.
We placed a damp cloth under our jug to ensure that it did not slip when Mini was blending the smoothie. We added ice and then coconut water until Mini got the consistency he required.
If you have smoothie left then you can freeze it in lolly moulds and it makes delicious ice lollies.
