Rowntrees Reduced Sugar Sweets – A thumbs up from The Mad House

I think as parents we all want to do what is best for our families.  I know for a fact that I do and I want to encourage them to make healthy choices when it comes to food, which is why I have to say I was intrigued when I was recently a taste tester for Rowntrees.  I never had any indication that the Randoms and Fruit Pastilles had 30% less sugar.

A while back Rowntrees as me to become part of their official taste team #RowntreesTasteTaste and sent me two small packets of sweets in a blank packet.

I had no idea what the sweets were, in fact, I thought that one packet was mini fruit pastels and the other just a new jelly style sweet.

Then when we were on holiday another delivery turned up, this time revealing that the sweets were Rowntrees 30% less sugar Fruit Pastilles and 30% less sugar Randoms.

I have a real love for sweets.  I am not a chocolate girl, instead, I love chews and sweets. I LOVE Fruit Pastilles.  I always have.  I remember the “gotta chew” adverts of my youth and can safely inform you that the new 30% less sugar Fruit Pastilles tasted no different to me.  At all.

As you probably know I am not a fan of replacing natural sugars with artificial sweeteners and I am delighted to say that Rowntrees have managed to retain a delicious fruity flavour without comprising and using any artificial sweeteners, flavours or colours.

Did you know that kids are consuming three times as much sugar as they should? Anything that means that we are reducing sugar in our diet and in the kid’s diets is good to me especially when it doesn’t result in a compromise on taste.

I have another pack on my shopping list to keep in the drawer of my desk for when I need a little pick me up!

Making Healthier Choices

I am a firm believer in everything in moderation.  I do not want my children to see different types in terms of treats and bad food.  I would rather they understood that different foods are appropriate at different times and that we change our intake levels due to what they are made off.

I want to have food explorers and encourage them to eat a wide range of foods.  I also want them to be educated in the different types of food and sugars who they can make informed decisions.  Not all sugars are bad, but by reducing them in sweets it means that they can have them in other foods.

The new, reduced sugar recipe Rowntrees Fruit Pastilles and Fruit Randoms are available exclusively in Tesco stores, nationwide. Have you tried them?
