When you panic about pregnancy nutrition

So, I am going to talk about pregnancy and I feel that I need to add a full disclosure here – I am not pregnant, can not get pregnant and will never be pregnant again in the future. However, I have been pregnant numerous times in the past and have two happy healthy boys.  This post is a paid collaboration with nutimum Pregnancy bars #nutrimumadvert #Ad #Nutrimum.

I suffered terribly during both of my successful pregnancies with Hyperemesis Gravidarum and was terrified that I wasn’t providing my growing babies with all they needed.  I spent both pregnancies in a total panic about pregnancy nutrition.

I couldn’t cope with the smell of food, the texture of food and even thinking about food made me feel nauseous! There was so much information about what you should be eating and what you shouldn’t consume that I started feeling anxious.  I am not going to lie and say that I wasn’t worried that what I was (or wasn’t) eating would have a negative impact on my growing foetus.  I do know if there was anything that could have made me feel better then I would have tried it.

This is why I was keen to work with nutrimum and their pregnancy bars.  I love that as part of a varied diet they help provide key nutrients that support you during your pregnancy.  I really wish they had been around when I was pregnant. They would have been perfect to pop in my handbag.

There are two different nutimum pregnancy bar flavours Summer Fruits and Raisin & Chocolate.  Both of which are really tasty and are great size at 30g.  A pack of 5 retail at around £2.99 in selected Boots Stores and Ocado.

I have tried them and they are really tasty.  They are not overpowering in taste and have a great texture.  They are not too sweet, but they really haven’t sacrificed taste in making sure they are tailored for during pregnancy.

While we should definitely pay attention to the risks we can avoid and make the most educated choices we can. Worrying about these things doesn’t help. In fact, it tends to make us lose sleep and feel overwhelmed.

During the final 12 weeks, you should aim to increase your intake by roughly 200 calories a day, and small and healthy snacks are a good way of contributing to this extra energy requirement, whilst helping you meet all the nutritional needs of your pregnancy, so there is no need to eat for two.

I was massively sick for both of my pregnancies and the babies took all the nutrients they needed from me and were both born heathy.

You can be vegan or vegetarian and have a perfectly healthy pregnancy. In fact, I was vegetarian during my first pregnancy.

Do not be afraid to talk to your midwife.  My midwife was a constant sense of reassurance during my pregnancy with Maxi.  She helped me make sure I was meeting my nutritional needs and feel confident in my decision to remain vegetarian.
