Pixar’s Inside Out stress balls

Have you seen Disney Pixar’s Inside Out?  If not you HAVE to go and see it.  We loved it.  It was a huge hit with us all in The Mad House and I have NOT been paid to say that! As soon as I saw it I could see so many crafts and activities to link to it.  I love that it explores emotions and it inspired me to make these Inside Out stress balls.

Emotions are so hard to explain and understand and Inside Out is fantastic in explaining them in a simple way.  I love how all the characters are so individual.

How to make Inside Out Stress Balls

stress ball do nots

Firstly you need to fill a balloon with flour.  No do not do what I did first, which was blow up the balloon and then try and fill it with the funnel and flour or you will end up with blow back and a room filled with flour!

Fill an empty bottle with flour using your funnel.  Blow up a balloon and twist the end three times.

filling the balloon with flour

Slip the end of the balloon over the flour filled bottle and then let it untwist.  Turn your bottle upside down and empty the flour into the balloon. Then let the excess air out of the balloon very carefully and a little at a time (you do not want the flour to all come out too)!

cutting the neck off tha balloon

Once you have all the air out of the balloon cut the neck of the balloon off.

adding a second balloon

Take a second balloon and cut the neck off it and place your first filled balloon in to it (hole first), then repeat until you have at least three balloons.  I did four.

Now comes the time to draw the faces on the balloons of Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness.   We had great fun with the stress balls and even made Fear tall and thin like his is in the movie and smooshed Fear so he was square in shape!

NB, these stress balls are not for throwing (they are very hard), if you want juggling balls or balls for throwing then fill with rice or play dough.

Balloon balls

I have loved having the stress balls on my desk and they have been great for relieving the carpel tunnel I have.  We have also been using the balls to help increase Mini’s manual dexterity and muscle strength.
