We first made hairy hot dogs or scary spaghetti back in 2009 (just look at how cute and small Maxi was back in 2009) and they have become an annual Halloween tradition here in The Mad House. They are super fun to make and something that the boys can make on their own now they are older. Making these is great fine motor skills for children of all ages too.
How to make Hairy Hot Dogs or Scary Spaghetti
Ingredients
- Hot dogs or Bratwurst
- Spaghetti
- Pasta Sauce (If required)
Method
These are really simple to make and fun for kids of all ages. Start by cutting up your hot dogs into four. As hot dogs are soft, this is great for younger children to do. Talk to them about trying to keep the sizes similar and how that helps them all cook through. Also encourage younger children to count as they cut.
Then comes the fun part threading the spagetti through the hot dogs. When the boys were smaller they threaded them through sideways. Now they like to thread it through lengthways.
Add to a pan of boiling water and cook until the pasta is soft (around ten minutes).
Drain and serve.
My boys love eating hairy hot dogs or scary spaghetti with pasta sauce. We served it with a tomato and bacon sauce this time.
They are also fab cold too and are a great Halloween food.
