10 Amazing wet weather play ideas 12

My boys love playing outside and during the summer, I have no issues getting them outside playing with their friends.  In fact, I know that they will be either playing football (soccer) for my US readers or cricket most afternoons after school.  It is much harder to encourage them outside in the cold or wet weather now they are older.  But just look at these 10 amazing wet weather play ideas brought to you in conjunction with WhatShed.

How to live smarter

How to live smarter 10

I am all for living smarter.  Anything that can save me time, money or allow me to make my life easier is a winner for me.  For me, smart living means making the most of my time, money and home, allowing me to have a more meaningful life.  Yes, that might sound deep, but in reality, it is just about living wisely and understanding my priorities.

Save Energy by installing the right blinds 8

One of my big things for 2016 is trying to be as energy efficient as possible.  It bugs me when we spend money that we don’t need to.  This puts money in the energy companies pockets when it could be in mine!  This is one of the reasons that I am delighted to be part of the Institute of Inertia.  We have been currently looking at working our way through the Mad House and updating inefficient products and we have recently been considering blinds.

Printing Flowers with Celery Stalks – Vegetable Printing 11

You can really create some beautiful artwork and patterns by printing flowers with celery stalks or other vegetables.  You can use the artwork for Mother’s Day cards, valentines day or for wrapping paper or you can just have fun experimenting with different colours and patterns. Printing is something that really appeals to kids of all ages and adults alike.  We were delighted at just how much the tightly packed stalks of celery resembled a flower.  Printing is such an exciting art activity, there is something delightful about dipping your object in the paint and waiting to see what pattern it makes.

Looking for a family car when you have Tweens

Looking for a family car when you have Tweens 9

It is really interesting thinking about what we look for in a family car now my children are slightly older at 9 and 10 and it is very different from when they were babies or even toddlers.  No longer do we need to have a massive boot to take all the paraphernalia that comes with newborns, nope what we need now is a boot that is wipeable for muddy football boots!

I was introduced to the Word of the year by Cathy from Nurturestore far to long ago to even remember!  It is something that comes from the amazing Susannah Conway.  Last year my word grabbed me immediately and it was such a fitting word, it was “Nurture”.  I needed to learn how to nurture.  To support my family, to cultivate relationships and to grow this website and my business.

Chinese Chicken

Chinese Chicken – A fab fakeaway for cooking with kids 14

One of the things that I find hardest as a mum is the constant feeding of my family.  The planning, shopping, cooking, cleaning it away on a never ending loop.  It is not that it is a difficult task, just that sometimes it is a thankless, never ended one and one that I find really easy to get stuck in a rut with.  This recipe for Chinese Chicken is new to me and the family, but it is one that has already made it on to our regular menu plan.  It is simple to prepare, quick to cook and means four empty plates here.  Oh and BIG bonus is that it […]

Watercolour Indent Valentines Cards

Watercolour Indent Valentines Cards 11

We have been experimenting with watercolours since getting some new water brushes in our stockings at Christmas. I originally bought them with the intention of us taking our paints out and about with us, but quickly discovered that the kids LOVE them and they sparked lots of creative activities including these watercolour indent valentines cards.   I am a big fan of homemade cards and hope to pass that on to the children and always make the husband a card.
