Just about half of America’s population is a caretaker to an aging relative. Either out of obligation and love or due to financial reasons, most jump on board to take care of those who once took care of them. Though caring for a loved one is a commendable act, it should not be done without careful consideration. As much as you love your family, there is a lot that goes into caring for the elderly that, at the very least you should educate yourself on and prepare for. Below are a few factors you may or may not have considered.

Have you ever been stranded in the snow or stuck in a flood in your car? I have and it is a scary thing, which is why each year we get prepared for winter driving and I have produced a winter car checklist. We live in beautiful rural North Yorkshire which means that we have to be prepared when it comes to winter weather. More so MadDad who often travels over some treacherous roads in the winter. Since moving back to the North East we have become much more prepared for bad weather and both have emergency packs in our cars.

There are dozens of articles out there that talk about the importance of limiting your kids’ screen time. What most of these articles fail to do, however, is offer you alternative activities to keep your kids entertained and occupied and, with any luck, activities that will encourage them to learn. This is not going to be a list of those activities. Instead, we’re going to talk about one specific activity: gardening.
I am a HUGE fan of building blocks for children. There are so many benefits for children to playing with blocks and wooden blocks are so tactile and a fabulous long-term investment for any parent or educational establishment. As a parent, it can sometimes be really hard to see the benefit of such a simple play tool and we often want to buy specific toys, however, as you will see the benefits of wooden blocks is huge within play-based learning.
When was the last time you had your children’s eyes tested? Did you know that it is free on the NHS and you can take them from around 6 months old on an annual basis? I am working with Optical Express to share with you the importance of getting your kid’s eyes tested regularly. As a Mum to a child who has worn glasses since he was 18 months old and wife to a husband who wore them from a year old and who wore glasses herself until having laser surgery with Optical Express in 2012, I understand just how precious sight is and how important eye tests are.
I am not going to lie, but after 4 years of making packed lunches for Mini, it is not my favourite job, especially as he has an aversion to sandwiches! So when Herley’s got in touch with me to work with them on their lunchtime talks campaign I jumped at the chance as there must be lots of people like me who get stuck in a lunch box rut.
