Let me start with a little reminder — this isn’t a to-do list.
It’s a “could do” list.
May is one of those months that feels full of possibility. The days are longer, everything is blooming, and there’s a real sense of let’s get outside and enjoy it while we can.
So here are a few gentle ideas for making the most of May together as a family.

As always, this isn’t about doing it all. Pick a few that feel right, skip the ones that don’t, and make May your own.
🌱 Seasonal & Nature-Inspired
- Take part in No Mow May and see what wildflowers appear
- Go on a wildflower walk and try to identify what you find
- Start a mini herb garden (windowsill or garden)
- Create a nature journal or sketchbook
- Make a DIY bird feeder (perfect time of year!)
- Try a sunrise or sunset walk
- Press flowers and use them in crafts
🌟 Celebration Inspiration
- May Day (1st May) – Make flower crowns or a May basket
- Celebrate Star Wars Day (May 4) – “May the Fourth be with you!” Watch a movie or make Star Wars-themed crafts like Star Wars Melt and Pour Soaps
- VE Day (8th May) – Bake something traditional and share stories
- Hold a Eurovision Party – Pick a country to cheer on, dress up, or have a mini lip-sync contest at home.
- Host a Cinco de Mayo Celebration – Add some colour with bunting and make nachos or tacos together for a fun cultural exploration.
- World Bee Day (20th May) – Learn about bees & plant bee-friendly flowers
- Celebrate Mother’s Day (Rest of the World) – For many, this falls on May 12. Take the opportunity to celebrate the maternal figures in your life.

🌌 Wonder & Wellbeing
- Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower (Peak May 6–7) – Stay up late with the kids, wrap up warm, and stargaze.
- Create a Calm Jar for Mental Health Awareness Week – A soothing, sparkly craft that’s as calming to make as it is to use. ➡️ How to Make a Calm Jar
- Go on a Walk for National Walking Month – Get outside, stretch those legs, and soak in some fresh air. It doesn’t have to be far or fancy.
👨👩👧👦 Family Moments
- Make a Family Tree for International Day of Families (May 15) – Great for bonding and storytelling across generations. You can use drawings, photos, or handprints.
- Spend Time Together Gently – Remember, even simple moments like reading, snuggling, or pottering in the garden are more than enough.
That’s the whole idea behind this “Could Do” list — there’s no pressure here. Do what works for you and your family. You don’t need a perfect plan to make May meaningful.
