Wednesday nights are our kryptonite. Both boys have to be at after school clubs and have other commitments, so dinner needs to be fast, filling and family friendly. Plus I go food shopping on a Thursday, so by Wednesday, we tend to be eating from the freezer and when McCain challenged us to make a simple midweek meal with their frozen sweet potato fries I decided to hand it all over to the boys.
Both the boys love sweet potatoes, but we hadn’t seen McCain sweet potato fries before. As they were going to be cooking and preparing the meal for us they chose frozen corn on the cob, pork loin steaks and sweet potato fries.
This really was a simple and speedy midweek meal as it was prepared and cooked in under 15 minutes.
Ingredients
- Pack of McCain Sweet Potato fries
- Pack of frozen mini sweetcorn
- 4 Pork Loin Steaks
The boys are both pretty proficient in the kitchen, but for this meal they had to use three different methods of cooking. They used our Tefal Inteligrill for perfectly cooked pork, our Phillips air fryer for beautifully crispy and fast sweet potato fries and then they cooked the corn in a boiling pan of water on the stove.
I love that both the boys had so much fun cooking their own meal and then cooking for me and their Dad when he got home from work. I also like that we can have the sweet potato fries in the freezer and they are a great addition to my midweek arsenal.

I love sweet potato fries! They are really nice when made fresh but I always have some in the freezer too.
So great to get them involved in the kitchen, and I LOVE sweet potato fries, they sound great!
We love sweet potato fries and have them at least once a week.
I make them in our air fryer and they always go down a storm.
My mother in law has just brought an air fryer and I am very jealous.
We have a Tefal Optigrill too – they are so good aren’t they! I would love to try the air fryer
I love the idea of sweet potato fries. also love the idea of kids taking charge of cooking dinner too 🙂
So important to get the kids cooking from a young age, they will do well when they move out of home later in life. Mich x
Both Alex and myself love sweet potatoes, Emma is still not very sure but maybe fries would win her over. I will get a pack when in Tesco’s this weekend.xx
I like the sound of sweet potato fries – I hadn’t realised that you could buy them to cook at home.
I didn’t know you could get these, so thanks for sharing. My kids much prefer sweet potatoes to regular potatoes, so I bet they’d like these.
Oh I didn’t know that McCain did sweet potato fries, will have to pick a packet up for an easy midweek tea x
I love sweet potato but cannot for the life of me get my girls to eat more than a couple of bites. Maybe I can tempt them with these
Oh my word we’ve not had sweet potato fries before, they sound divine. What a great meal for speed though. It’s tricky trying to balance it all isn’t it. We have POD home at 6pm then it’s a mad rush of dinner making, bathing and attempting to get her to sleep!
