The Best National Budget Hotel Chain for Families

Do you ever feel the fear when you are looking at booking a hotel room for the family?  I don’t think that I have unrealistic expectations.  I just want a comfortable bed for all of us, a great breakfast at reasonable price.

We live in the beautiful North East of England which means that we often have to travel to event or tourist spots (like Thorpe Park) and stay overnight.  Over the years I have come to know what we need as a family.  I am thankful that my nights of sitting reading in the bathroom whilst trying to get the kids to sleep in hotel beds is long gone now the boys are 10 and 11, but with them being older it does mean that pull our beds are no longer any good for them to sleep on!  We tend to use hotels just as a base for sleeping in now we have kids, so space isn’t such an issue.

This is why we always look for a Premier Inn. We recently stayed in the Reading South premier Inn and it was perfect for our needs.  The beds were comfortable with a choice of pillows to meet our needs (soft or firm).

The air conditioning wasn’t working in our room, but there was a fan provided and sheets for the bed in case it was too warm.

As a family we tend not to travel light when it comes to tech and all now have mobile phones, so we love the fact that there are USB plugs each side of the bed, as we like many other people use our phones as alarm clocks on holiday.  Plus you get free wi-fi, which is great for travelling with teens and if you want to upgrade to fast wifi, which is perfect for streaming then it is only £5 for 24 hours for up to 3 devices.

The bathroom had recently been refurbished and was perfectly clean.  Our room came with a wonderful shower, which is perfect for older kids, but do ask when booking if you have younger children and would prefer a bath.

I am something of a tea monster and the Premier Inn provides free tea and coffee and they are happy to replenish it too. There is also a flatscreen TV and a hairdryer too, oh and a full sized mirror.  The desk area was perfect for me to check emails.

Another reason we love Premier Inn is their kids eat free breakfasts.  They are clean, good value and of a wide variety.  Reading South is a lovely premier Inn to stay in as the food is served in the adjacent pub (The Old Bell).  It provided us with somewhere beautiful to sit and relax in the sunshine.  You would never guess that you were less than 5 minutes away from junction 11 of the M4.

It really makes a difference having some outdoor space after travelling for over four hours in the car when you have children.  The Premier Inn Reading South is a great no frill hotel with quiet rooms, comfortable beds in a rural location but perfectly located for the M4. It really is a hidden gem and great value from £54.50.

Disclosure:  We were provided with a room and breakfast free of charge in exchange for this post.  However, we would have stayed here anyway and it is our fourth visit to this hotel!
