Personalised notebooks.Since the boys were first at school we have always made a teacher gift for their teachers both at Christmas and at the end of the school year. This year we decided to make a button apple canvas teacher gift.
I know that not everyone agrees with giving teachers gifts, but I decided that I really wanted to give the teachers a small token of pout appreciation and encourage the boys to show gratitude to their teachers. Now we do not give expensive gifts, we try and give a homemade gift.
Now my boys are getting older most of the teachers have already got our previous gifts, so we had to have a bit of a think about what to make and came up with this.
Button Apple Canvas Teacher Gift
Materials
- Red buttons
- Square canvas
- Glue
- Our template
How to make a button apple canvas teacher gift
You can make this without using our template, but it is so much easier for perfectionist children to use the template. The boys are at that stage where they have a need to have things just right.
We raided my substantial button stash for all our red buttons and then I topped it up with some additional ones.
Print our your template and cut out the apple leaf and apple.
Glue on the leaf to the canvas and then place the outside of the template onto the canvas as a stencil.
Start gluing on your buttons inside the stencil. You can lay them out first if you want to, but we had fun just placing them on and finding ones to fit our spaces.
We found it easier to do the outside of the apple first and then move to filling in the center.
I was glad that we didn’t use a glue gun as it would have set too fast. Using an all purpose glue allowed some time to move the buttons.
We used an eight by eight canvas, but these would also look great on cards as a thank you for teachers.
I really hope that the boys teachers like this year’s teacher appreciation gifts.
We are going to add the teacher’s name and the boys name to the canvas to finish them off.

Oh I do love working with buttons, and this is such a fabulous idea for a gift for teachers and easy to get children involved too. I’ve pinned this as an idea for the end of next term.
I love it!! We always make our teacher gifts too, it’s much better than giving them one of the standard gifts that you know they are going to get tons of. I’ve pinned this for later and will be looking through all your other ideas too. Thanks!
This is such a fantastic idea, I am sure that the boys’ teachers will absolutely love them!
Lovely idea. We always make our own teacher presents but then my daughter does have four teachers in a day sometimes!
Simple and effective, I love it!
I would love this gift from my kids! So pretty! Thanks for participating!
What a great idea. It looks simple but effective. And probably something even young school children could do 🙂
Oh these look lovely Jen! I must admit that with moving house we’ve already had to do our leaving stuff – I totally forgot until the night before so I did a Super Craft Blogger job and did…..wine and cards that the kids drew. Teachers liked it though!!
I love this, so simple yet effective. I absolutely LOVE the apple shaped buttons 🙂
There’s something soothing about working with buttons , I love this gift
What a cute, simple idea! I love it! x
What a lovely idea for a gift Jen, easy to create too. I wondering what we should do for the end of term, POD’s teacher has been amazing. They do say you never forget your first teacher and I really hope she won’t 🙂
I adore this, its the cutest craft activity! I just wish I had lots of red buttons now 🙂 x
How do I get the apple template. thanks
