Clove and Orange Pomanders perfect for Christmas 1

Clove and Orange pomanders are perfect for Christmas. They add a fabulously festive touch and scent to your home and for me are the smell of Christmas. I used to make these with my mum over advent when I was younger as we never put the tree up until after my birthday on 20th December, so they are so evocative of that time for me.

Make your Own Homemade Christmas Crackers

I am a big fan of Christmas Crackers, I love the excitement and anticipation of pulling a cracker at Christmas. So why not make Christmas Day go with a bang by making your own Homemade Christmas crackers.  They are super simple to make and you can add your own unique gifts, jokes and party hats in order to personalise your Christmas Day. I know it is super easy it is to pick up a ready-made box from any supermarket, however, in order to get gifts that my family will use and not just tat they are often expensive and really wasteful. I love how making crackers adds some wow factor to Christmas more »

The Importance of Christmas Traditions 1

The importance of Christmas traditions is a paid collaborative post with Christmas Tree World.  I am not going to lie, this year has been a challenging one in The Mad House, a person very close to us died and it has weighed heavy on my mind and in my heart since. They left behind a young family and that is what inspired this post and cemented my thinking about the importance of Christmas traditions.

How to make a DIY Believe Christmas Plaque

DIY Believe Christmas Plaque is a paid collaborative post with Bostik. I adore Christmas and I love creating so it goes without saying that I love to fill my home with seasonal pieces that have meaning. This Believe Christmas Plaque came about to remind my boys’ that as long as we believe in Christmas the magic will always be there. Last year was the first year that both of my boys’ didn’t believe in Father Christmas and we had to have that conversation.  You know the one I mean, that not believing in the big man doesn’t mean that you stop believing in the magic of Christmas. In fact, their job becomes even more more »

4 fabulous sets of Acts of Kindness Advent Calendar Printables. Random acts of kindness perfect to print and use for an advent calendar or kindness jar

Acts of Kindness Advent Calendar Printables

It is hard to believe that we have been doing an acts of kindness advent calendar for four years.  It all started when I was concerned that the boys were becoming rather immersed in the commercialisation of Christmas and of advent. I wanted them to understand and learn about Christmas and advent being about giving, so came up with the idea of an alternative advent calendar.

Air drying clay ornements 13

Every year we make salt dough or corn flour ornaments and unfortunately they got damp in storage and they were ruined, so this got me thinking about using Air drying clay for a more permanent Christmas decoration.

Christmas Wrapping Ideas for Brown Paper 8

I want to share our Christmas Wrapping ideas for this year. I love wrapping Christmas presents with brown paper. Brown kraft paper is always something that I have a roll off so is perfect for emergency gift wrapping.  I have to say that this was inspired by Heather from Growing Spaces Fun Christmas Gift Wrap Ideas.  More specifically the Beard one.

Wonderful Ways to Celebrate Advent 6

I love Christmas and the Advent.  I really want to celebrate advent and use the time to focus on the true meaning of Christmas and make it about giving and have a joy filled time with my family. I want advent to be about more than just opening a door on an advent calendar and getting a piece of chocolate, I want it to be a time where we cement our family traditions and give joy to other people.

Christmas Memories Book and Christmas reflections printable 16

Can you remember what you got for Christmas last year or the year before?  I know that I can’t.  In fact as I get older these things seem more and more important to me, so this year I am going to create a Christmas memories book for us to use. Sort of like a scrapbook where we can record our memories of the festive season.  Experiences and people that made it special. I always promise that I will do scrapbooks, but I never seen to have the time, so I am happy for this to be quick and simple and I am going to pop it in a bag in the advent more »

Make an Advent Candle or wreath 2

We love advent and one of the ways we celebrate is to have an advent wreath or ring that we light each sunday to help celebrate the lead up to Christmas.  The first Sunday of advent for 2014 in November 30th.  Me and the boys have spend the last few days making this years advent ring, even though it is more of a plinth! People light one candle on the first Sunday of Advent, two on the second Sunday, three on the third Sunday and all four on the fourth Sunday. Some people then continue to light all four candles during the Christmas period. Traditionally an advent ring has three purple and more »
