The Small Stuff – October Edition 12

Wow what an October it was.  The mildest one I can remember and we had a great time even through all the sickness that plagued us during the month, however, as always the small stuff is what made it a month to remember. We started our month with an epic trip to London with Superbreak, in fact it was the best family weekend we have ever had in London.  We saw the poppies at the Tower, saw the amazing Matilda, visited the Art of Brick and stuffed ourselves silly!

The Small Stuff – May 26

May has been a long month, or so it seems to me. It has been filled with two Bank Holidays the first which was full of sunshine, gardening and laughter, the other rain, but also so much joy and laughter too.  It has also been a month filled with #SmallStuff This month we took the puppy on holiday to Sand le Mere with us.  It is wonderful to be able to take your dog on a holiday as we found out.  it makes for lots of family walks and talks along the way.  It means that you look out for family and gof friendly places and trust me there are out […]

The Pyrex Dish 14

Even as I grew up and had a family of my own, my mum always encouraged me to cook and I realised that she had given me a firm foundation in the kitchen and love of seasonal produce. I know you are only a dish, but I cried a little last night for a woman that I miss so much and then when I saw you in the bin this morning I cried a little more for the time in my life you represent.

Yes, I know my mum would be saying “it is just a dish Jen” and indeed it is, but also a thousand memories were baking inside it and it will always hold a place in my heart.

Unable are the loved to die. For love is immortality

11 years, an eternity some days, but a split second on others. You are forever part of my life, I love and live by the rules you instilled in me, I learn each day how important you have been in moulding me. I am your echo, your legacy. As my children are mine, carrying with them a part of me and, therefore, a part of you. I hope they grow in to great men like you were. I refuse to live my life in anger at your early death, instead I remember the days we had. I remember feeling safe and cradled in your hands. I remember joy and freedom. You […]

The Library

There is something about the smell, about walking in to a Library and, bang you are hit by that musty, booky smell.  The one that has stayed with you since childhood. I often take the minimads to the small library in the village.  They love playing with the books, the stacking plastic chairs and also the jigsaws, which are never complete.  They adore the thrill of having their own plastic library cards and being responsible for taking out their own books and putting them in mummy’s book bag. But the other day I took Mini to the library of my childhood.  The main library on the street where I grew up, […]

The Gallery – A Memory

This weeks prompt for The Gallery is A Memory.  I have thousands of photographs and each one is a precious memory in its own right, which makes this week harder than most for me. How can I pick a specific memory, just one memory out of all of the millions that I have.   At the beginning of July we all went to London for the weekend, I went to CyberMummy, but we made the most of the weekend and made many precious memories as a family. So it isn’t the best picture in the world, yes it was very dark in the Aquarium, but we were busy making a memory for […]

Writing Workshop – Hues of Orange

We had a caravan when I was growing up.  No, not one of those wonderful static caravans, no we had a box on wheels, so summers were spent setting off in the dead of the night to the English Riviera.  Well before seat belts became compulsory, my parents would pack the cool box, the pillows and the duvets to make the back seat in to a makeshift bed for my younger brother and me and once we were asleep they would gently lift us to the car and start our adventure. Often the we woke to the sound of cars thundering by, as my parents had a cup of tea from […]
