Cleaning your Washing Machine

I am a firm believer in looking after the things you already have and making sure that they last as long as possible and this week I realised that I hadn’t cleaned our washing machine since we got it in April 2016!  In fact, it was Emily who shamed me into it by doing hers and sharing it on Instagram Stories.  It turns out that Dr Beckman has a new product called Service-it for cleaning your washing machine, so I tried it out and this post is a paid collaboration with them.

How to clean your washing machine. How often do you clean your washing machine? Why use a dirty machine to clean your laundry!

So be warned this isn’t a pretty sight!  But within 50 minutes and all of that bar, 2 minute was the washer running a cycle it was sparkling clean.

To start with you take a damp cloth and squirt a small amount of the liquid on to the cloth and clean the door seals.

Then you remove your detergent drawer and place it in to warm water with 50ml of the Service-It fluid and leave to soak for 30 minutes.

Magically all the dirt and grime just floats off.  Just look at the water – ugh!  No scrubbing necessary.  I think that as I wash a lot more at lower temperatures gunk is left in the draw, plus this washer is cold water intake only.

Look sparkling clean just after soaking.

Then you add the remaining liquid and pop your washer on a 6o degree cycle with nothing in the drum and your machine is all clean and smells great.   The Service-It eliminated all the detergent residue that formed on the drum, pipes and seals of my washing machine. Ridding the dirt and grime that create nasty odours. If you are in a hard water area then Service-it also eliminates limescale on your machine’s element to improve efficiency and protect your washing machine against breakdown. For £2.99 I was really impressed and I am going to make sure that I clean it more often than once a year in future!
