Cute Felt Chick Purse
Felt projects are great for teaching children how to sew as they do not fray and are easier to handle. This cute felt chick purse is a great size project to learn on and would be perfect for gathering and storing up easter eggs.
To make a cute chick purse You will need:
- Yellow felt
- Small piece of orange felt
- Small piece of pink felt
- Spring themed ribbon
- Yellow, orange, pink and black embroidery cotton
- Needle
- Scissors
Step one:
Use the template provided and cut out the purse shapes out of yellow felt, the cheek shapes out of the pink felt and the beak shape out of orange felt.
Step two:
Sew the pink felt cheeks onto the flap of the purse once folded over (see picture) using matching embroidery thread and by using a simple close together running stitch. Tie a knot underneath when complete and cut away any remaining thread.
Step three:
Place the beak shape in the desired position (diamond shape) and sew with matching thread and using a running stitch across the centre of the diamond beak shape.
Step four:
With the black embroidery cotton and using a simple running stitch or if you’re a more competent sewer a back stitch and sew two closed eye shapes (as pictured) You could sew buttons, or black felt circles for eyes if desired.
Step five:
Place the front purse piece under the flap and sandwich the ribbon ends at the two corners, using matching yellow thread sew the ribbon in place and continue sewing around the perimeter of the purse till you get to the other side and secure the other end of the ribbon in place. Tie a knot and cut any remaining thread.

That is so creative – my younger sisters would love to have a go at this, although if I tried to help I would probably end up stitching my hand to the bag! Stephen
