Add some homemade wonder to your tree with our DIY Cardboard Gingerbread Ornaments or you could use them as homemade Gift Tags for your presents this Christmas.

I adore making gingerbread with the children and decorating them around the table as a family (we even turned some into reindeer) and that is what inspired these super simple cardboard gingerbread cookies.

I love how something so simple can be so effective. They are perfect for making with friends and family and you can all put your own spin on the designs.

Materials:
- Cardboard – I used kraft card bought for a previous project
- Scissors or cutting machine
- Hole punch
- Butchers twine
- White pen. I like using a white acrylic paint pen or a chalk pen.
In order to make it simpler to make these DIY Cardboard Gingerbread Ornaments or Gift Tags I have already got them set up to cut in Cricut Design Space.
Step by Step Tutorial
These cute homemade Christmas ornaments are so fun, easy, and cheap to make!
I created simple shapes – houses, candy canes, gingerbread men, etc. in fact 27 different images (download the free templates at the end of the post) and then cut them on my Cricut Maker, but you can print and then trace the shapes on cardboard and cut them out.

Then all you have to do is decorate them with either a white paint pen or a chalk pen. I have a couple of tips that will help. Start by outlining the shape.

Then add the details. If you want to be very detailed then a white gel pen is useful.

Once they are decorated then you can punch a hole in them and add the butcher’s twine.

I like to decorate first as then you can decide where to position the hole.

Then they are just perfect for hanging on a tree, popping on the front of a Christmas card or for using a beautiful gift tag, which is what I am using mine for.
