One of the great things about Christmas Crafts and DIY Christmas Decorations is getting them out and popping them on the tree year after year. They bring back so many memories and so much joy. I love doing seasonal crafts with kids and these paper straw wreaths are great as they can be adapted for kids of all ages (I pop some tips in the instructions).

How to Make Paper Straw Christmas Ornaments

Start by cutting the straws into around 8 pieces. If you have younger children then you can do this for them. and pop them in a pot for the next step.

Now for the fun bit, let the children string the straw pieces and beads onto the straws. You need to make sure that they leave enough pipe cleaner at the end to join into a wreath shape. by twisting the pipe cleaners. You may need to help younger children.

Tip: For younger children secure a bead on to one end of the pipcleaners to prevent all the straws and beads falling off the end.

The ribbon needs to be cut about 6-8 (15- 20 cm) inches in length. Tie the ribbon around where the pipe cleaners are joined. Again if you have younger kids then cut the ribbon for them. Then before tying the ribbon in a bow take the baker’s twine and thread through the knot. Use the plastic needle for young ger kids and knot securely.

Tip: Cut the end of the ribbon on an angle to prefernt fraying.

Once you have added the piece of string to hand your decoration on the Christmas tree then tie the colourful bow.

You could use plastic straws if you have any left, but I love all the different patterns you can get on paper straws.
