DIY Etched Wooden Heart Keyrings

As my boys’ get older encouraging them to be creative is becoming harder and hard but they both loved making these DIY etched wooden heart keyrings perhaps it had something to do with the fact that they were using a burning tool!  I am warning you this is so addictive we now want to etch everything that is wooden! So hold on to your hats folks as this is a great craft for older kids and adults alike.

How to make DIY Etched Wooden Heart Keyrings

Saftey and supervision is paramount when using a wood burning tool as it gets very very hot.  To be on the safe side I made sure we had a bowl of iced water nearby and we used a baking tray to burn on.

Our wood burning tool came with lots of different ends so we experimented and discovered different patterns we could make with them.

One of them was perfect for making leave shapes and for making flowers that kind of looked like tulips.

Once we started we couldn’t stop!  Then we attached the keyring hardware using pliers.

I also turned one of the hearts into a necklace using some fab leather string from Papermash.

We used different fastenings for the hearts so that some of them can be bag charms rather than just hold keys.

I have just ordered some alphabet stamps (UK Link/US Link)for our tool as I think that they would look amazing on chopping boards.
