Easy Monkey Paper Puppet with Templates

I am delighted to be teaming up with Nature’s Path to share with you a fab Easy Monkey Paper Puppet with Templates.   Nature’s Path, the organic and gluten-free expert, is bringing its two well-loved kids cereals Envirokidz, to the UK. Already family favourites in Canada and the US, Leapin’ Lemurs and Choco Chimps are delicious organic and gluten-free breakfast cereals with an environmental heart. Choco Chimps is a delicious combination of fair trade chocolate and organic corn, while Leapin’ Lemurs is a tasty mix of organic corn, chocolate, and peanut butter! The MiniMads have been putting the Envirokidz cereal to the test and LOVE it.

We love the company’s mantra of “Always leave the earth better than you found it” and the fact that the cereal is made using methods that do not involve synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilizers.   1% of the sales of Envirokidz is donated to support endangered species and environmental education for children worldwide.

Both of the boys really love Choco Chimps as they have a lovely crunch and chocolaty taste but they are not over sweet (perfect for Maxi who is usually a porridge boy)! Mini likes the fact that they do not go soggy when you add the milk.

So inspired by the delicious Choco Chimps we decided to make a monkey or more appropriately a chimp paper puppet.

How to make Monkey Paper Puppet

We have two monkey paper puppet templates for you, a coloured one or a black and white one so you can colour it in or paint it yourself.

If you have a laminator then you can use cardstock and laminate your puppet.  Otherwise, print it on paper and reuse the cardboard cereal box. Firstly decided which template to use.  Children will adore colouring their own monkey in.

Then print it out and cut out all the parts.

If laminating now is the perfect time to do that.

Alternatively using a glue stick adhere the paper to your cardboard cereal box and cut out.

Using your hole punch, make holes for the moving parts.  There are four in the body, one each in the arms and legs.  These are marked on the template for ease.

Now you need to thread your bakers/butchers twine on to your needle.  This is why it needs to have a large eye!

Next, take the thread and put from one arm to the next using the marks provided (If you are unsure how to thread your puppet there is a great tutorial here with video too).  Make sure the monkey’s arms are down not outstretched and tie off the twine.  Then do the same for the legs. Add a brad/split pin to connect your monkey’s arms and legs.

Finally, you have to tie a piece of your twine from the piece connecting the arms to the piece connecting the legs.  It needs to be a long piece so it dangles down for you to pull to make the monkey dance!  This might take a little trial and error, but it is worth it.

We had so much fun making and then playing with our puppets.
