Autumn, where I live means cooler winds off the North Sea, crunchy leaves underfoot and that irresistible urge to curl up with a good book. To make reading season even cosier, I’ve put together a printable set of 24 autumn-themed bookmarks you can colour yourself. Whether you’re making a craft afternoon with your children or looking for a mindful break on your own, these bookmarks are a delightful way to celebrate the season.

What’s inside the free PDF?

The printable PDF contains six pages, each with four different designs. From harvest themes to woodland creatures, each bookmark celebrates a different aspect of autumn. A quick tour:
| Page | Theme | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Leaves & pumpkins | Intricate patterns of pumpkins and swirling leaves |
| 2 | Harvest scenes | Pumpkins piled with logs and a cosy scarecrow in a field |
| 3 | Forest animals | A wise owl, a smiling bear, a curious raccoon and a cheeky squirrel among acorns |
| 4 | Pumpkins & corn | Pumpkins with ears of corn, berries and a woven basket |
| 5 | Leaves & mushrooms | Maple leaves, pine cones and mushrooms with plenty of white space for shading |
| 6 | Raccoons & friends | Playful raccoons, chipmunks and owls enjoying nuts and berries |
Each bookmark measures roughly 2×6 inches when cut out. The artwork is line-based and clean, so coloured pencils, felt-tip markers, gel pens or even watercolours work nicely without muddying the details.

How to print and customise
- Print on sturdy paper: For long‑lasting bookmarks, print the PDF on 200–250 gsm cardstock. Standard printer paper works too, but your bookmarks will be flimsier.
- Cut carefully: Use a paper trimmer or craft knife and ruler for straight edges. You can round the corners with a corner punch for a polished look.
- Add personal touches: Before laminating, feel free to write your name or a favourite quote in the blank areas. You can also glue on tiny embellishments like sequins, pressed leaves or sticker gems.
- Laminate for durability: If you want the bookmarks to survive many books, run them through a laminator. Leave a small clear border to seal in your artwork. Punch a hole at the top and add a ribbon or twine tassel.
- Gift and share: Tuck the finished bookmarks into books as seasonal gifts for friends, classmates or library patrons.

Colouring tips
- Choose an autumn palette: Earthy reds, burnt oranges, mustard yellows and sage greens look wonderful on the leaf and pumpkin designs. For animals, mix browns and greys with pops of forest green or berry red for acorns and berries.
- Layer and blend: Build up colour gradually. Start with light pressure, then add shading in the creases of pumpkins or the fur of woodland creatures to create depth.
- Backgrounds are optional: Leaving the background white makes the coloured motifs pop. Alternatively, wash a light sky blue or warm beige to unify the design.
- Experiment with mixed media: Use gel pens for highlights, metallic markers for acorn caps or even a bit of glitter glue on leaves for extra sparkle.
