Getting your Home Summer Ready

Do you do anything to prepare your home for summer?  It seems as though the weather can not make its mind up here and it feels as though we are going from lovely warm weather to torrential rain.

We have been working on rejuvenating our home for the summer.  We have already done our hall, stairs and landing.  We have given it a new coat of paint, a new carpet and also a new curtain at the door.  It is amazing what a difference it has made to the entrance to our home.  The hall is the first thing you see and I love the bright white walls and striped grey carpet, especially when the sun shines on it.

Renovating your home in time for summer doesn’t have to be expensive. Whether it’s a lick of paint in the kitchen or some new bedding in the bedroom, there are loads of easy ways to add a new lease of life into your home.

Cushions – I am a big fan of renewing and changing up cushions.  We have seasonal options that I use.  At the moment we are grey and yellow.  I keep an eye all year round for ones that match the colour themes.

Throws – I have to say we love throws here and use them a lot on summer evenings as we do not have the heating on and there can be a chill in the air.

Rugs – I love rugs and find that an indoor/outdoor rug is a brilliant addition to a home in the summer.  It adds a touch of decadence to the patio area and is great underfoot.

Summer Bedding – Not only do we change our duvet to a summer weight one, but I also swap out our bedding to more summery colours and put the brushed cotton bedding away until the Autumn.

Fly Curtain – We like to keep our back door open during the summer, it means that Alvin (our dog) can run freely in and out.  So I make sure I hang a fly curtain to stop the flies coming in.

Outdoor Furniture – One of my annual jobs is to give the outdoor furniture a good brush and clean.  We have wooden furniture, so I use a firm bristled brush and every couple of years or so we coat with a protector.

Patio and Drive – This is one of the jobs that the kids love getting involved in.  We get the pressure washer out and give it all a good clean.

Kids Toys – One of the ways that we prepare for summer it to get out and clean all our summer games and toys.  We go through the garage, check the tires on the bikes and make sure that all repairs are completed.
