We have been making homemade pizza’s as a family since the boys were small. It has become a tradition in the Mad House that Saturday night is pizza night and over the years we have perfected our homemade pizza recipe and now it is perfect and great for cooking with kids.
Our homemade pizza recipe
I love making pizza with kids as it often encourages them to try new ingredients in a familiar format. You can pretty much put anything as a topping on pizza and we have even had nutella topping!
We also use our bread machine for prepping the dough, but you could use a mixer or even do it by hand.
We have been making this recipe for so long that both the boys know it off by heart! The recipe makes three 12 inch bases, but is also great for making dough balls or small individual pizzas.
Tip – fold down the top of the bag of flour to make it easier to get out. We also use a flour scoop
rather than a spoon.

Homemade Pizza Recipe Dough
Ingredients
- 560 g of strong white flour
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- pinch of salt
- 1 sachet of yeast
- 340 ml of warm water
Instructions
-
We simply pop the ingredients in to our bread machine on the pizza dough setting and 45 minutes later we have perfect dough ready to roll.
-
However, you could also put them all in to a mixer and mix using a dough hook then leave to rise for 40 minutes in a warm place.
-
Alternately you can hand mix it and knead for around 10 minutes before leaving it covered in a warm place to rise
Pizza Toppings
We tend to mix up our toppings depending what we have in the fridge and store cupboard, but using different toppings is a great way to encourage kids to try something new. These are garlic butter, pepperoni and salami with red pepper. We also love mozzarella on top of our Ultimate Homemade Pizza Sauce.
It is important that you use equipment that is suitable for the age of the child doing the cooking. Maxi is now at the stage where is mostly uses adult sized tools, but he needs to do it at the kitchen table as the work tops are too high.
Tip – use lots of flour when rolling pizza dough to prevent it sticking. We use a flour duster
Do your kids like pizza? What is their favorite toppings?

I have always wanted to make homemade pizza with the kids! I will be using your recipe, thanks x
Yum!! These look lovely! Have always wanted to make my own but sadly haven’t done so yet. xx
We make these too. I have the dough ready in the breadmaker for when H comes home from school and then we roll out and top them. Often do it when other kids come so they can choose their toppings if they are fussy eaters. Interested to see that your recipe uses honey – not thought of that. Our magic ingredient is garlic granules.
What a wonderful way to encourage kids to cook nad enjoy their food too.
Looks like they did a great job. Thank you for the recipe as we keep meaning to make our own pizza base – we cheated and used toast last time.
Making pizza is my boys favourite thing to make x

My kids have always enjoyed cooking and this looks like a great recipe – thank you for sharing it.
Ive never made my own pizzas, so this sounds like lots of fun x
The girls love making pizza and chose to have a pizza making party and sleep over for their birthdays last year 🙂

great ida involving kids in the kitchen, we did attempt this but making a thick crust and overloading the top made it look more of a pie it was that bg lol x
My breadmaker gets used more for making pizza dough than anything else!
We enjoy making homemade pizza too, but don’t do it very often. You’ve reminded me to give it another try.
This looks yummy! My son has just agreed that he will eat pizza – hurray!!! So far nothing from home though, will have to try making some with him to see if he’ll change his mind 🙂 Thanks for linking with Tuesday Tutorials #pintorials
