I am a really big advocate of cooking with children and getting kids in the kitchen from an early age. Some of my happiest memories are of helping my mum bake and cook, but more than just happy memories, she left me with the legacy of being pretty handy in the kitchen and this is something I am really keen to pass on to both my boys.
Both of my boys have been active in the kitchen from being able to sit up. Their first kitchen experience was playing with pastry in their highchairs whilst I cooked pie for dinner.
I am delighted to be partnering up with UNCLE BEN’S and their fantastic site Ben’s Beginners in the lead up to International Cook With Your Kids Day on 15th October 2016.
Get your kids in the kitchen with Ben’s Beginner’s
UNCLE BEN’S® believes that cooking is an essential life skill as important as reading or writing and have created the Ben’s Beginners™ digital hub to provide families with helpful tools to learn to cook in a fun and exciting way.
I love the way the digital hub is structured, it has fun interactive lessons for kids such as stirring, chopping and peeling which all go towards making a healthy, simple and family friendly recipe. You earn badges for completing each lesson making it fun for all ages.
One of our favorite family TV programs in the Great British Bake off, in fact, a lot of the family TV we watch is based around food and cooking, so Ben’s Beginners builds on that love and is a super-fun way for parents to connect with their kids via learning to cook together.
I learned early on with the boys that is is good to provide them with a recipe that isn’t mine, that way I do not assert my authority on their time in the kitchen! Ben’s Beginners has a superb selection of delicious recipes, which are easy for children to follow and perfect for all the family to enjoy.
Learn how to stir!
I love just how interactive the site is and younger children will love practicing their skills in the virtual kitchen.
The hub walks you through each step of the process.
Gives you a list of ingredients and tells you a little about each of the ingredients.
Then it walks you through the method step by step with images, perfect for children to follow.
We love the recipes and over the coming weeks will be giving them a trial, so make sure you keep watching to see what the MiniMads get up to in the kitchen and to help you get started we have this fab infographic to help you to start getting in the kitchen with your kids.
Love this idea! my boys love cooking in the kitchen and i think it is essential for children to be able to prepare and cook a couple of basic meals. Some great tips for me there too I always crack eggs on the side of the pan/bowl then have to scoop out shells! x
This all looks great – I particularly like the idea of making those taco bowls – seems easy (I hope) but effective and it would be fun to fill them too.
Love the look of the tacos in particular, they look great! Anything that encourages kids to enjoy cooking and eating a healthy diet has to be good doesn’t it? 🙂
Love this idea, as I was saying yesterday I really need to start getting the kids in the kitchen more 🙂
My two love cooking and I find that letting them get on with it is the best thing to do these days 😉
Great website with some really useful tips – we cook a lot and my Daughter loves to bake, I wish I was a lot better at baking though!
Love this – I’ve recently bought some kid friendly cookbooks for family dinners and it’s really helping my kids to try different foods.
Zak is just starting to cook at home, so I’ll have to show him this, it looks great!
I don’t want my lack of cooking skill to rub off on the boys, I must try harder and this sounds a useful resource x
