We are busy “dumping the junk” in The Mad House. We have noticed that when the boys grab junk food that we suffer the consequences in their behaviour. We needed to find a drink that I could freeze and pop in lunch boxes over the summer for football camp, so wanted to give Capri-sun a go.
We visited our local ASDA and decided to try the Capri-Sun Fruit Crush as part of our #CollectiveBias shop, it is fruit juice and spring water and no nasties. I can safely say it went down well and neither of the boys had a reaction to it – yippee!
But I was left with the cartons and wanted to use them, so I decided to make a pencil case with them (we are all about reuse, reduce, recycle here thanks to Bob the builder!
How to make a Capri-Sun pencil case
Surprisingly Capri-sun pouches are really goof doe sewing and this pencil case took me around 30 minutes last night.
It is also great for a beginner to make as the zipper goes in before you close the case. I used washi tape to hold the pouches together before sewing them and it made it so easy to do.
Now we have to buy more Capri-sun as both the boys want a pencil case and this time they are going to sew their own.
Love this idea! Really need to buy myself a sewing machine x
What an ingenious idea, I totally love that pencil case! It would take me longer to actually dig out my sewing machine but when we move I’m all over this!! Thanks Jen xx
Oh my goodness, Jen! Respect! Wow, you are so super talented…what a great idea. I’m very very strict about recycling in our home but absolutely rubbish at upcycling. I think I never ever got to craft a lot… sad. I’m so pleased you’ve found a practical thing to make from something we don’t think twice about throwing away. Well done…I’m going to pin this on my pinterest.
What a brilliant idea! I have just got a sewing machine and we are doing this shop too so will have to give it a try!
What a great idea! Well done for thinking of it and thank you for sharing x
Very inventive! You are so crafty x
Wow! *bows in reverence* What a cool pencil case. Seriously impressive!
Oh you are so clever! I would never have thought to reuse something like this to make anything never mind a pencil case… amazing!
Another cool make, you are such a cool mum! x
These are just brilliant Jen!
You should link up to #GetYourCraftOn this month which is Stationery.
I love this! Complete genius. Also got me wondering if you can do anything similar with the fruit pouches that my youngest often has puree snacks from…
One geeky question though – what needle did you use in your sewing machine? A denim one?
@Penny Car – I just used a standard needle. The general purpose one that comes with the machine. it went though really easy
Absolutely phenomenal. LOVE IT. Wish I had a sewing machine now, not that I’d know what to do with it. That pencil case looks SO retro. I loved participating in this shop. Genuinely love Capri-Sun and these new ones are delicious and as you say NO NASTIES> I am always on the look out for aspartame free drinks and am delighted with them.
oh wow! I never would have thought of that, I would have just put them in our recycling bin! thanks for making me think out of the box! what a different idea! I bet your kids love things like this!!!
Well done this looks fun and very effective. Brilliant use of upcycling

These are so neat! I remember these were sort of in fashion around 10 years ago now maybe? They sold bags and purses in a shop in our home town, it’s such a great idea 🙂 x
