These remembrance feather baubles are so simple to make. Losing someone you love is hard and celebrations seem to make that loss so much more acute in my experience. However, small things can help us remember the people we love and bring comfort when we are missing a loved one.
When I was growing up and a feather floated by my mum would always say “Feathers Appear When Angels are Near” and that is what made me think of making one of these baubles and I remember seeing stamped feathers on a blog a while ago. Early this year my best friends husband died unexpectedly and he has left a great big hole in our lives. I am hoping that she finds a little comfort in having one of these to hang on her tree. I have also made them for my tree in memory of my Mum and Dad and for my SIL too.
I wanted to signify both remembrance and love hence using a glass heart bauble for the feather, however, if you have young children in your home or even a rambunctious cat then you need to use plastic ones, which are actually much easier to fill (as you will see)!

How to make a Remembrance Feather Bauble

I have seen these baubles with deathers in and the person’s name in vinyl on the outside, but I wanted these to be a little more understated, so decided to try and stamp the name directly on to the feather. This works best when the feather hasn’t been fluffed.
Take the stamps for the person’s name. My top tip for this is to use an elastic band around the stamps and to practice on paper first. We used archival ink.
We chose to stamp the name on to both sides of the feather, but you could always add the date the person died on the back if you like.
Carefully remove the hanger from the neck of the heart bauble and push the feather inside. I tried to balance the feather, but it kept spinning around, which is where the repositionable sticky dots come in to play. I removed one and using tweezers attached it to the feather and the glass.
Replace the hanger and add a loop of ribbon for hanging.
Now that I had the heart bauble cracked, I decided to give the easy option a go and oh my these are so much simpler especially as the baubles open right up!
So just like the hear, you stamp the feather and cut to fit and then adhere using a glue dot.
I love how simple they look and that they have so much meaning.
For my friend, I stamped some with her husband’s name.
