There is nothing nicer than a homemade Mothers Day card, especially ones made by your kids. I am a huge fan of homemade mother’s day cards made by my boys and I have pictures of all the ones they have made during the years.
As a mum, I know just how fast kids grow and I remember the baby stage really well. The boys both had outfits that they only wore a couple of times before I had to pack them away as they had outgrown them and when tidying the loft recently we found a bag of them. Well, I am not alone, a recent survey found that 71% of parents still have baby clothes that their children have grown out of and half of the parents of teens like me are still hanging on to their clothes!
I love Mother’s Day. Yes it might be overly commercial, but it is a wonderful reminder for us all that Mothers are amazing. Plus with two little boys in the house that love giving and making cards and gifts it is the perfect opportunity for them to express their creativity. As much as I adore homemade flowers such as our beautiful cake case daffodils, nothing beats the simple rose.
This week I have been acutely aware of missing my mum.
There has been a mum shaped whole in my days.
This is my third Mothers Day without her and she was not one for the soppy sentiments in Mothers Day cards.
But more than my pain and the pain of my children, I hate the fact that my wonderful sister in law now has to go though Mothers Day without her mum.
Her wonderful mum died on Friday night.
I hate that I am welcoming her in to a club that I do not want to be part of.
That I can not take away her pain and also that I know how much heartache she is going through.
I read this post by Becky and so want to echo the sentiment. Family is not something, family is everything.
