We are currently enjoying Minion madness here in the mad house after watching The Minions last week. We all love the minions, we have done since we first saw Despicable Me. If you know anything about Minions then you know that our lovable sidekicks love bananas, so they are a big part of our Minions Milkshake.
We love cooking in The Mad House. I really enjoy teaching the boys new recipes and sharing with them recipes that have been passed down through the family. I want to make sure that I leave them with a legacy of lots of delicious family recipes. I was delighted when Newcastle Building Society set us a ‘Customise Your Life’ challenge of customising your cookbooks with your top 10 family recipes as it spurred me on.
Welcome back to our A-Z ingredients cooking with kids series. We are currently at H is for honey. As an added challenge this week, we were asked to produce a three course dinner for four on a budget of £20 by Ffrees. So I passed this over to Maxi who is ten and he certainly rose to the challenge in budgeting, buying and cooking us a fantastic Sunday dinner.

We are at F is for Flour in our A- Z of ingredients cooking with kids series. We could have made many things, but with the Easter holidays and spring in the air we decided to make some simple M&M cookies. My SIL had just got back from Florida so we had a wonderful selection of spring coloured M&Ms to use and these cookies are perfect for making with kids.
We have been making the most of a fabulous week of weather here in the North Yorkshire for the second week of the school Easter holidays (hence the lack of posting this week)! Holidays for us mean lots of family activities and lots of cooking and eating together. With two boys aged ten and nearly nine I have to make my food stretch and with these hacks for leftover food you will never throw any food away again!
The aim of our cooking with kids series is to encourage the boys to try new foods, but also to build on basic cooking skills and provide them with a repertoire of usable recipes. Eggy bread is one of those simple recipes that I know they will return to a lot (they have already made it for breakfast three days on the trot).

There is something special about picking up a recipe book or a handwritten recipe that is marked with fingerprints, oil splatters and the holds in it all the history of the times that meal has been cooked for loved ones. My mum didn’t have a recipe book, she cooked from memory, she even baked from memory. She was an excellent cook and other than a few notes in an old Mrs Beeton’s Cookery book from 1959 and a Bero Book with notes in and a few pages torn out of magazines. Then she died so suddenly a lot of her fabulous recipes died with her.
