I have never been one for keeping a journal with all my heartfelt feelings in, but I love the idea of being able to look back and see what I did this time last year or the year before. So when I saw this project at Design Sponge I knew it was the perfect one for me.
We have made thumbprint cups before and they were the inspiration for these Thumbprint Reindeer ornaments and Reindeer thumbprint mugs (which are dishwasher safe) they have always gone down a storm. This year my little crafty mission was to take this fun tradition and reindeer fingerprint mugs as Christmas gifts for the boys’ teachers and teaching
Maggie over at RedTed Art set a challnge to do an art project based on a story from Fly Thomas Cook’s travel stories. We read both of the stories with the boys and asked them what they thought we should make and they decided that they wanted to do something about water, as this is what they assocaite holidays with.
So we decided to do a sea scape. The boys used bubble wrap to make the sea and then cut out and decorated fish to stick on to it. I drew the fish shapes on the paper and they cut them out themselves.
My boys are like chalk and cheese, as I have said before. Maxi was writing by age three, whereas, Mini really doesn’t enjoy mark making or writing. He is a perfectionist and gets upset that it doesn’t look like he thinks it is supposed to, this isn’t helping in mu opinion with the school teaching
A large part of simplifying Christmas for me is making it all about homemade. Homemade decorations and homemade gifts I am a great believer in that the simpler things are, the more effective they are.
One of the main ways we start the festive season is by making our advent crown or wreath. This is one of the many things I remember doing as a child, however, I remember the Blue Peter version of wire coat hangers, tinsel and open flames!!
