I have blogged previously that we are not big fans of homework here in the mad house, however, I am aware that it is going to become a necessary evil for my boys in the years to come and we have made the decision that from this year (year 5, aged 9/10) we are going to encourage Maxi to learn at home and do any allocated homework.
Tuesday evening is parents evening for the boys and I am going to have to have THAT conversation about homework again. What conversation are you thinking…. Well at five and six, I just do not see the need for my boys to do homework.
I want my children to learn by play, not to be forced to do homework unwilling. When you look back to your childhood, can you remember doing homework at Primary school? I cannot. Homework was something that happened to me in Senior school and I am keen to keep my boys childhoods just that, childhoods. I do not feel the need to hot house them, or to force them to learn unless they are falling behind their peers.
have never shied away from the fact that I am not a fan of homework for infant and primary children and told both the boys teachers when I met them and they understand that the boys only tend to do homework if it lights their fire or pushes their button, which isn’t very often. They are 4 and 6 and there are much better things they can spend their time doing other than homework.
