Washi Tape Christmas Ornaments

Washi tape is a fab crafting material, especially when it comes to kids. I love that it is easy to tear into small pieces for little hands which is great for fine motor skills and also that it comes in so many different patterns and colours. Over the years I have collected quite a few (understatement) and I love bringing them out especially at Christmas.

How to Make Washi Tape Baubles

Kids loved making washi tape Christmas ornaments! These baubles are a super simple, fast, no mess seasonal craft perfect for little hands.

I wanted to make this super easy, even for younger children, so I decided to make an inner circle bauble to which the pieces of tape can be added. That way it doesn’t matter if the tape is all random as you are just going to glue the inner onto the bauble. I printed ours in red and green, but you could co-ordinate to a specific scheme. DIY washi tape ornaments are such an easy craft that they doesn’t really need a step by step tutorial!

This really is super easy and a fun craft for the holiday season where you end up with cute ornaments. It is great for toddlers or children of preschool age as they have no problem decorating the circles with washi tape and they love making their own Christmas decorations, all it takes is a little imagination. You start by covering the inner circle with strips of washi tape.

There is no need for accuracy as you are going to any excess washi tape under. Washi tape is such a great craft material as it doesn’t require scissors as it tears easily.

Fold the tape to the back of the inner circle. You could always swap the washi tape for strands of ribbon.

Rear of Bauble

Then using a glue stick cover the rear of the inner circle – I am a big fan of Bostik Blu Stick for this (Yes, I work with them but this isn’t a sponsored post) as it goes on blue and dries clear so you can see where you have added it.

Turn over and place centrally on the outer card bauble. Can you see how this is such an easy holiday craft for homemade ornaments? Sometimes simple ideas are the best and I love easy holiday crafts as we are all so busy during Christmas.

Then all you need to do is add the cord or twine to your DIY washi tape Christmas ornament so it can hang on the tree. As you can see we chose red and green washi tape but I can see that different tape in bright colours would make a really cute ornament. You could add one to the front of a blank card to make a Christmas card that any Mom would love and the washi tape Christmas ornament could be hung on the tree afterwards.
