Sugar Cookies

Simple sugar cookies that can be decorated before you bake them.

Ingredients

Cookies

  • 225 Gramm Caster Sugar
  • 225 Gramm Salted Butter Room Temperature
  • 375 Gramm Self Raising Flour
  • 1 Medium Egg
  • 1 tspn Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tspn Baking Powder

Decorations

  • 2 bags Green coated chocolate beans
  • 1 pack Gold Stars

Instructions

  1. Cream together the butter and sugar until it changes colour and is not granular

  2. Add the rest of the wet ingredients (Egg and vanilla) and mix together with the creamed sugar and butter.

  3. Add in the flours and baking powder and mix together on low until combined

  4. Wrap dough in cling film and refrigerate for at least a couple of hours. It will stay in the fridge for up to two days.

  5. Flour your surface and roll out your cookie dough. I like to roll them quite thick about half a centimetre.

  6. Cut out your shapes and place on to a silicone sheet and on to a baking tray.

  7. Decorate your cookies. We made Christmas Tree shapes

  8. If you have time - re refrigerate your cookies for another hour. This will prevent them from spreading.

  9. Cook for about 12 minutes at 180 degrees centigrade

  10. Allow the cookies to mostly cool on the baking tray before transferring to a wire rack.

Recipe Notes

Freezing - I have frozen out un decorated sugar cookies for up to 3 months. Layer them between sheets of parchment paper in a freezer-friendly container. Thaw in the refrigerator or at room temperature. You can also freeze the cookie dough for up to 3 months before rolling it out (I wrap it in cling film and then place i the freezer.  Thaw in the same way as cooked cookies.
