Szechuan Beef

Chinese dish which is known for its heat and packs a punch!

Servings 4 people

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Soy sause
  • 2 tbsp Rice vinegar
  • 1 level tsp Corn Flour/Cornstarch
  • 3/4 inch piece Fresh ginger
  • 1 lb Lean beef steak cut into bite size pieces
  • 2 Garlic cloves crushed
  • 2 Red chiles Seeds removed & Finly Chopped
  • 1/4 tsp szechuan peppercorns crushed
  • 1/4 tsp chinese five spice powder
  • 1 Red pepper sliced and seeds removed ●     (if you can’t red peppers, use bok choi, celery, beansprout or mushrooms)
  • 1 Yellow Pepper sliced and seeds removed
  • 1 Spring Onion finely chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Put the soy sauce, vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, corn flour and ginger in a bowl with 1 tablespoon of water and mix together.

  2. Finely chop red chiles and add to the marinate. Put asiide for later.

  3. Slice peppers for later.

  4. Cook Szechuan peppercorns and Five spice powder for 1 minute in oil. (tip, until you can smell the armoma)

  5. Then add the beef and stir fry for 2-3 minutes until the beef looks brown.

  6. Add the Marinade (made earlier) and stir for around 1 minute.

  7. Add peppers from earlier and fry with beef for another 2 minutes.

  8. Season with black pepper to taste, add spring onions and serve hot with plain cooked rice or anything of your choice.
