This is a call to cancel exams in England in 2021. After reading Who’s the Mummy’s post on Why we need to cancel GCSE’s and my youngest child being sent home to isolate for the second time in one term, I decided to stop just talking about cancelling exams for year 11 and 13 in 2021 but to actively find our how I could campaign and make my voice heard.
Why cancel GCSEs and Alevels in 2021?
I have a year 11 child and he has missed so much onsite learning this year. Not only during lockdown 1.0, but also due to isolation.
My children are privileged that they have the tools to access home learning, a warm home to learn from and food on the table. I assure you this is not the case for all children with many being forced to access home learning on their phone with a pay as you go contract and no printer.
Given the disparity not only is learning experience but in the isolations between the North and South of the country how can we expect our children to sit a standard exam next spring when their learning has been anything but standard?
What can I do to Cancel Exams in 2021?
Write to your MP asking for GCSE’s and A’Levels to be cancelled in England for 2021. Not sure of how use a website such as www.writetothem.com and just enter your postcode.
Sign a Petition asking for exams to be cancelled in England in 2021.
Write to Commons Select Education Committee at educom@parliament.uk, who are looking for submissions on the impact of COVID-19 on education and children’s services – closing date 20 Dec 2020.
Get your child to write to the Children’s Commissioner explaining why they feel the need to cancel exams in 2021.
