Hearing but not Listening

My boys, especially MiniMad seem to have issues with listening. I and the preschool were so concerned with Mini’s hearing that he was referred to an Audiologist. Thankfully it turned out that Mini’s hearing was perfect, although it took four different attempts to get him to co-operate with the tests.  You could see that he was hearing the sounds, he just refused to acknowledge them! The Audiologist was a lovely lady who went on to explain that she sees now boys than girls and that they can hear, they just don’t listen.   They tune out or focus on other things. So what can I do about making the boys not […]

Getting Mini – Part One

My darling boy will be four on 24 June, I truly can not believe how time flies, so now is the time to tell you all about getting mini.  I have told you about getting maxi here  Maxi and I on the day I found out I was expecting Mini After the pregnancy I had with Maxi, I wasn’t sure about having another baby, but watching him grow we knew that we didn’t want him to be an only child.  So we made the decision not to take any precautions, well other than the fact I had just had a baby!   Maxi didn’t sleep, well never more than about 4 […]

Tiffin/Rocky Road

In an homage to my fellow MAD finalist Nick at My Daddy Cooks, Mini and I made a twist on his and Archies Tiffin  We followed Nick’s basic recipe, but made a few tweaks as we went along. 125g butter250g digestive biscuits4 tbsp golden syrup3 tbsp high quality cocoa powder75g raisins250g plain/dark chocolate Instead of using the microwave we melted our butter, golden syrup and chocolate over the stove, for me I love the way it all melts together, so smooth and silk like. We then added it to our biscuit mix and added in raisins and mini marshmallows. What is truly great about this recipe is that mini did most […]

The Gallery – Men

This week’s prompt over at The Gallery is Men. Pictures of the men in your life – dads, sons, uncles, teachers, partners, brothers.   Let’s hear it for the men! So I give you the men in my house:   My wonderful constant companion thought life, he can be many things to many people, including a maker, an educator, a boss, a colleague, a lover, a husband, a dad, a provider…. He has and is there for me and the boys when we are unwell, always putting us first no matter what.  He is a wonderful daddy and they couldn’t have asked for more. He is fun, amazing and just wonderful, as I have […]

Consistency has been the Key

I thought it was about time I updated you on the MiniMad situation and I am pleased to say that we seen to be going in the right directions with the temper tantrums.   I have put my action list in to play and we have drastically reduced the number of incidents and also blessedly the length of any tantrums which do start. I have not succumbed to any of my curly hair terrorists demands and as someone commented you do not negotiate with terrorists! The main things that have made the biggest difference are: Setting expectations of what I want him to do. Counting down to when we are doing […]

Dealing with Temper Tantrums – A response 14

What can I say, apart from a great big thank you obviously.  The blogging and Internet community has done it again and come to my aid. I have had some fantastic comments on my post about minimads temper issues and one thing I am sure of it that it will pass, all of your comments has made me sure of this.  It seems that I am not alone in experiencing this and if others can get through it then so can I. The comments were so good and insightful I felt that they deserved a post of their own, that way if anyone else is going though this, they can see […]

Who will win the war 31

We seem to be fignhting a never ending battle in The Mad House at the moment with minimad.  Mothership posted today about seeing yourself in your children and it got me thinking and I finally decided to come clean about an issue we are having with MiniMad. I have always said the mini’s were headstong, their own men, independant thinking, but it is just an excuse really, just a polite way of saying, that they can be stuboarn, hard headed and bloody hardwork at times.  This stage with Maxi wasnt too bad, we were able to negotiate, distract ot tickle our way out of things, but my oh my, with Mini […]
