Peanut Butter flavour Oreo Owl Cupcakes – Cooking with kids

How adorable are these owl cupcakes all made by Mini with Peanut Butter flavour Oreos.  We have been challenged by Oreo to produce a recipe using one of their exciting new flavours range that most suited our personality.   The options were Choc’o Brownie flavour Oreo – smooth, Mint flavour Oreo – cool, Peanut Butter flavour Oreo – nutty or Strawberry Cheesecake flavour Oreo – fruity.  Well seen as we are The Mad House there really was no choice – it had to be nutty!

These yummy Oreo Owl Cupcakes are perfect for making with children. They are totally adorable and so simple and fun to make.

These Oreo owl cupcakes are perfect for making with children and you really do not have to make everything from scratch although that is fun too.  For this parliament of edible owls we used our fail-safe fairy cake recipe and shop bought frosting.

Oreo Owl Cupcakes

You will have a real hoot making these fabulous cakes.

Ingredients needed for Oreo Owl Cupcakes

  • Oreo Peanut Butter Flavour Cookies (1 per owl)
  • Chocolate frosting
  • Cupcakes
  • Brown chocolate M&M’s or Smarties (2 per owl)
  • Orange chocolate M&M’s or Smarties (1 per owl)

How to make Oreo Owl Cupcakes

Make your sponge cakes and allow to cool.  When making your cakes do not overfill the cake cases as you want them to be flat for the icing and Oreos to lay flat.  Then take a small palate knife or spatula and cover the cake with frosting.

Then you need to split your Oreos. You can use the traditional turn and split and just use the cream coated side or you can split them with a butter knife as we did.

Then place a small amount of frosting on your brown M&M’s or Smarties and place onto the cream side of the Oreos.

Then place the Oreos onto your frosted cake.

Place an orange M&M or Smartie vertically for the beak.

These were so much fun to make and so simple that older children can be left to do them on their own.
