Advent Calendar Activities with Free Printable: Fun Ideas for the Holiday Season

Jen Walshaw — Fri, 13 Nov 2020 13:31:31 +0000

Celebrate the build-up to Christmas with these fabulous advent calendar activities for Kids and Printable Activity Advent Calendar. This really is the cutest way to pass the days during advent and to reinforce family values at this special time of year and is full of Christmas activities and Christmas crafts.

There is something really magical about spending quality time with family over December. The small traditions that make this time of year remarkable and that cement memory in our children’s hearts. They don’t have to be expensive or take lots of time, in fact often children really love and remember the smallest things.

My boys love our Advent traditions and even now as teens insist that we have Christmas hot chocolate and movie nights. We still ice gingerbread together.

Activity Advent Calendar

This year our traditions might have to be a little different due to the circumstances but there is no reason that we can not all have a wonderful magical advent filled with treats. I love a Christmas countdown and the idea of this countdown calendar is that it is filled with small seasonal activities that are simple but also build up the anticipation until Christmas Eve.

In fact, I think that it is even more reason to find small joy in each of the days. So I have created a printable advent activity calendar with foldable envelopes filled with an activity each day and also a set of numbers for you to print and use.

If this year has given me anything, it is a total appreciation of spending time with the people I love. So I have gone through our big long list of Advent activities and used 24 to make this beautiful simple calendar. I have also included some blanks so you can add your own special Christmas traditions that you have for the holiday season.

This advent activity printable is really easy to use, just download, print, cut and fold. These envelopes fold into themselves, so no glue is needed. I have made it super easy for any Cricut owners out there and you can find the printable here for Cricut.

We decided to clip each envelope off a wire fairy lights using clear pegs and to pop numbers on the front. We even have a printable for the numbers (here for Cricut users)

Scandi Style DIY Advent Calendars: Chic and Minimalist Christmas Countdown Ideas

Jen Walshaw — Sun, 11 Oct 2020 19:13:29 +0000

I am a massive fan of DIY advent calendars especially in the Scandi style (well they do everything festive so much more stylishly)! Plus they seem to focus on the little things that matter rather than big flashy advent calendars with gifts.

For me, advent is more about the build-up to Christmas and the things that we can do to bring families together. Small things that make the season memorable and traditions that families come to enjoy year after year.

An Advent calendar isn’t only a countdown to Christmas. It also takes you through the dark month of December with a daily dose of excitement and joy.

Also, making one could be the perfect little DIY project this autumn. Below is our favourite Advent Calendars, Scandinavian style of course.

Scandi Style DIY Advent Calendars

I adore this advent village calendar, it is simple to make and looks really effective. It is pretty achieveable for anyone to make. Find all the details here: an advent village

Whilst we are talking about matchboxes how simple and effective is this Matchbox tree advent calendar from Sweet Paul?

You would never guess that this advent calendar from mamas Kram is made from toilet rolls, washi tape, bakers twine and stickers. It is so beautiful.

I LOVE this clever idea to turn a box of Toffifee in to an advent calendar.

I love how simple and beautiful this DIY Paper Star Advent Calendar from Ohho Deco is.

It seems that I am drawn more and more to simple and stylish Advent calendars like this one from Reading My Tea Leaves

This Wooden Cone advent calendar is absolutely stunning and perfect for hiding little treats.

This Triangle Wreath Advent Calendar by Monochrome will be perfect for using as a wreath base after Christmas.

This DIY Advent calendar in boxes would love great on a mantlepiece and I love the felt trees so much.

This calendar from Design Mom is brilliant for using year after year.

I adore this simple scandi advent wheel. So perfect for a family dining table.

This DIY Painted Dipped Advent calendar has got me looking for tiny bottles to use and make my own.

I think this is my favorite of all advent calendars as it mixes the tradition of an advent wreath with a calendar.

This advent spiral is just stunning and I am certainly going to make one for our home.

We have a chalkboard wall in the kitchen and I use that for our advent calendar.

This Floating advent calendar by Fall for DIY is so stylish.

Holidays are coming – Give a little happiness

Jen Walshaw — Fri, 19 Dec 2014 09:30:00 +0000

Holidays are coming, holidays are coming, holidays are coming, its always the real thing……………

You know when the Coke advert comes on that Christmas is on it’s way and now even the Coke lorry tours the country. We have never seen it, but Cass from Diary of a Frugal Family has.

This year however, I have to say that I adore Coca Cola’s new advert, has made a big impact in The Mad House. The mini mads are forever to be found singing “let’s make someone happy”. Have you seen it?

With our Advent acts of kindness, it really resonated with me and with the boys too. Christmas for us is a time to share happiness and spread joy to as many people as we can. It is also time to have a little fun too, which is why I love the Coke Zone Make a Christmas Wish – I even make one for you (why not take a look)

I recently met with Coke and Coca-Cola’s Science Manager, Fiona Angus before Blogfest and it was a really interesting morning. I learned about their new product Coca-Cola Life, which you will find in a green can, which contains Stevia (a natural sweetener made from a leaf).

I have become a big fan of Green Coke (as it is known in The Mad House) as it tastes like Red Coke (again as it is known in the mad house). It makes me feel virtuous that it has a third less calories and no nasty artificial sweeteners (which I have issues with having had cancer).

Even better Coca-Cola are running their designated driver campaign for the seventh year running. This is their special ‘buy one, get one free’ offer on soft drinks at 12,500 pubs and bars across the country.

Find out more about Coca-Cola designated driver campaign here.

You can find out more about Coca-Cola Life and the Coca-Cola Zero Park Lives – which I blogged about on A Thrifty Mum over the summer which is free, family activities in local parks . Coke also have some fab tools on their site including a Work It Out Calculator which lets you see how you can burn off the calories from their various products and a Caffeine Counter to help you keep track of your intake (a real eye opener for a tea drinker like me)

Ways to Use Your Free Advent Acts of Kindness Printables | Spread Joy This Holiday Season

Jen Walshaw — Mon, 17 Nov 2014 21:45:13 +0000

So you saw my recent post with the 50 advent acts of kindness with the two free printable sets designed by the lovely Purple Pumpkin blog. Well I wanted to share with you ways to display them or use them.

We tried to make it easy for you all by offering them in two different sizes (A4 and US letter size) in addition to two designs christmas trees and also gift tags. We love Anna from The Imagination Trees Kindness Elves and this would be a great list to use for

Kindness Jars

Rather like our bored jars, the kindness kars are simply the Advent acts of kindness all printed off, so you can pick one out at random to complete that day. To pretty up the jars I simply wrapped some festive ribbon round them. This is the perfect way to use the acts of kindness for people who like a little spontaneity.

An Advent tree display

We have a chalk wall in the kitchen and I thought this was the ideal place to display our advent acts of kindness trees. |I used little wooden tree pegs we had and simply blue tac’d them to the wall. This would work well on any surface and we topped it with a lovely star decoration that we had.

Hanging Advent Calendar

Again we used small pegs, but strung them on to cord and then hung them on the wall. This would work really well using the tag style printables and our advent stockings that I made.

So these are my ideas, I would love to know how you might use them or display them.
